ABOUT RYAN

With a style similar to the likes of Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, and more, Hobler’s debut album, The Elusive Yes, is poised to be a masterpiece of powerfully moving songs that all listeners will be able to connect with intimately  - Earbuddy

Upbeat...catchy, well-crafted...with that early ’70′s Harry Nilsson/Gilbert O’Sullivan pop-ness about it.  It’s a good thing, especially in a time where “songwriters” are becoming scarce - Popdose

2014 NewSong Music Finalist

Best of NYC Emerging Artists Americana/Folk Rock - Deli Magazine

Eclectic folk-pop singer and genre-jumping songwriter Ryan Hobler has been playing music in and around his native New York for nearly two decades. Performing in various bands and working as a professional audio engineer, Hobler developed a refined, lyric-driven style with a sound that combines intertwining layers of natural acoustic tones, transporting vocal harmonies and surprising arrangements. Thematically, his songs range from intimate personal stories to surreal allegorical explorations that have been praised for revealing a "love, defeat, and resilience in each track” (examiner.com).

Influenced by folk-rock heroes like Paul Simon, Elliott Smith, and Nick Drake, Hobler’s driving force is a desire to connect with others, inspire them, and create great art. In 2015, with the help of renowned producer Andy Baldwin (Bjork, St. Lucia, Wakey! Wakey!), Ryan released his debut album, The Elusive Yes.

So many exciting developments over here in RYRY LAND. First and foremost, just a few days ago I was named a FINALIST in the prestigious NEW SONG MUSIC CONTEST which means I will be performing in competition at LINCOLN CENTER Saturday November 15th!! Previous winners of this contest include Ingrid Michaelson & Amber Rubarth. So honored and also Wooohooo!

Next month, I'm ecstatic to finally be playing the CMJ Music Festival in NYC this October 22nd. Check out the SHOWS page for more info.

"I HAVE LOVE, I HAVE YOU" PREMIERES: PRAISE & CAKE

"I Have Love, I Have You," my latest single debuted on Nooga  a few weeks back. Since then,Creative Spotlights gave the song a glowing review, writing mega-flattering things such as: "With heart melting lyrics about love above all else and Hobler’s velveteen vocals, this song could be the next hit love song" (oh please, say more) and "To me, the song is everything that a girl wants to hear from their significant other." IHLIHY was also reviewed in Songwriting Magazine which described it as a "summery slice of folk-pop delivered in Hobler's crystal clear vocal." Lastly, IHLIHY also was cited as a great soundtrack to making a Chips Ahoy Icebox cake over at I Sing In the Kitchen. The song is now available on iTunesBandcampSpotify, and various other internetty places. What are you waiting for? Go check it out there or listen to it here on this site!

"NEAR YOU" PREMIERES ON THE BLUEGRASS SITUATION + SONGWRITER DEATHMATCH

My latest song "Near You" premiered today on The Bluegrass Situation. "Near You" is an incredibly personal song I wrote for my wife, Lauren, one New Year's Day not long after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout that difficult time - from Lauren's mother's diagnosis to the end of her chemo and eventual remission - I found myself aching to say the right thing to Lauren, as if some magical combination of words would suddenly make everything better. I discovered that simply spending time with her and our family was the best and most comforting thing I could do. Being there mattered more than whatever I could say.

Please do check it out and tell me what you think. The song will be on iTunes, Bandcamp, and on my website in a few days but for now check it out on The Bluegrass Situation.

Had a wonderful time playing my first gig - on Montclair Center Stage - in my hometown of Montclair, NJ. Had a great crowd of people singing, dancing, and finger-snapping along. It was super welcoming! The Montclair TimesThe Montclair Dispatch, and Baristanet gave me some great writeups too.
Songmeanings interviewd me, discussing creativity, influences, and my love of old school songwriting.
Did a Daytrotter session with my brother Kieran Hobler & Michelle Amador and that is now up HERE. Lookee, they made this rad cartoon of me:
